August 4: The government has sacked two members of the board of the Nepal Electricity Authority(NEA), Bhakta Bahadur Pun and Kapil Acharya, from their positions.
They were appointed under the quotas of the CPN (Maoist Centre) and CPN (Unified Socialist), respectively, and were sacked by Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Dipak Khadka.
The two NEA board members were sought clarification by the Minister Khadka accusing them of not cooperating with the implementation of directives issued by the Nepal government and the Electricity Regulatory Commission regarding the dedicated and trunk line dispute on July 31.
Minister Khadka relived Pun and Acharya of their responsibilities after finding their explanations unsatisfactory. Earlier, the board meeting of the NEA had decided to reconnect electricity to six industries that had been disconnected due to the dispute on July 23.
However, Pun and Acharya had expressed dissatisfaction on the decision by writing a note of dissent.
