IPPAN Urges PM Oli to Address Private Sector Concerns in Electricity Bill

KATHMANDU, August 1: The Independent Power Producers' Association, Nepal (IPPAN) has called on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to address the private sector’s issues in energy legislation.

A delegation led by IPPAN President Ganesh Karki met the Prime Minister at his official residence in Baluwatar on Friday.

The IPPAN urged the Prime Minister to amend the Electricity Bill, 2080, currently under parliamentary review, to include provisions for private sector participation.

The delegation expressed concerns that the bill's current provisions could exclude private entities and lead to the cancellation of approximately 30,000 megawatts of planned projects.

Additionally, IPPAN requested the immediate opening of power purchase agreements for 13,000 MW-capacity projects that are in the pipeline. RSS
