KATHMANDU: Saurya Airlines' Captain Manish Ratna Shakya, who has been receiving treatment following the deadly plane crash at Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday, is in normal condition, according to Kathmandu Medical College, Sinamangal.
The Director at the Medical College, Prof. Dr. Mina Thapa, issued a press note on Thursday stating that Captain Shakya is currently out of danger.
Shakya is the lone survivor of the Saurya Airlines plane accident, which claimed the lives of 18 others onboard on Wednesday morning. He was rescued alive from the crash site at Tribhuvan International Airport.
Captain Shakya has been undergoing treatment at the ICU of the hospital following the crash. The hospital told state-owned RSS that currently there are no complications in his treatment although he suffers broken ribs and backbone.
"Shakya's face has sustained minor wounds. Three ribs and a backbone are fractured," RSS quoted Dr Thapa as saying.
According to RSS, Dr Thapa also paid tribute to those who died in the plane crash and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had visited the hospital to take stock of Captain Shakya’s health condition on Wednesday soon after the Pokhara-bound plane with maintenance crew of the airline company met with the accident.
