Monsoon Arrives in Nepal Three Days Early

KATHMANDU: This year's monsoon has entered the country from eastern Nepal three days before the expected date. The Meteorological Forecasting Division confirmed this year's monsoon entered the country via the eastern areas of Koshi Province on Monday, June 10.

The tentative date for the arrival of monsoon is June 13 but it made its presence three days earlier, the division said. The monsoon will advance gradually to other parts of the country.

According to forecasts made by the division, the monsoon season this year is expected to bring 35 to 55 percent more rainfall than the average.

More than 1.8 million people are likely to be affected by the monsoon this year, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).    A situation might surface where 83,000 families would be directly affected and 18,000 households need to be rescued and provided with relief, NDRRMA said recently.
