KATHMANDU: The Weather Forecasting Division reported record high temperatures across the country on Thursday. Nepalgunj witnessed the highest temperature of 44.2 degree Celsius.
Meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Govinda Jha, informed that the temperature measured on Thursday was the highest ever recorded in Nepalgunj.
Adjacent city Dhangadhi had recorded 44.1 degree Celsius the same day.
Earlier, Bhairahawa had witnessed 43.6 degree Celsius last month.
On Thursday, Biratnagar sweltered at 41 degree Celsius and Ghorai at 40.2 degree Celsius.
Even the hill cities including the federal capital Kathmandu and tourist capital Pokhara had scorching weathers.
The temperature of Pokhara was 34 degree Celsius and that of Kathmandu was 34.4 degree Celsius on Thursday.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said that the country is currently experiencing the partial influence of local and westerly winds, along with low-pressure systems around Bihar, India.
Meanwhile, the weather today will be generally cloudy in Koshi, Madhes, and Bagmati provinces, while it will remain mostly clear in the rest of the country, according to the department.
According to the daily weather bulletin of the department, light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in a few places in the Koshi province today. The hill regions of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces will be partly to generally cloudy, with fair weather in other parts of the country this afternoon.
Light snowfall is expected in isolated areas of the high hills and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.
Tonight, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in a few places in these provinces and at one or two locations in Lumbini province.
In the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected in several places across the Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and in isolated locations in the Lumbini province. There is also a possibility of light snowfall in the high hills and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division under the department, light rain with thunder and lightning is expected in the Kathmandu Valley this afternoon. The maximum temperature in Kathmandu will range between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius today. -- RSS
