KATHMANDU: The government has announced that IT parks will be established in Kathmandu Valley and Butwal. Presenting FY 2024/25 federal budget at the parliament, Finance Minister Barshaman Pun made such announcement. These parks, according to Pun, will be equipped with essential amenities such as high-speed internet, reliable electricity, and robust security infrastructure.
To encourage the growth of the domestic IT sector, the government has pledged to offer complimentary access to the park's facilities for a period of three years.
The government has also said that it has included a provision mandating government agencies to prioritize the utilization of domestically produced software. Furthermore, internships in the IT industry will be facilitated for undergraduate and postgraduate students studying information technology subjects, aiming to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
In a bid to position Nepal as a prominent hub for information technology, Finance Minister Pun has set a target for the IT industry to achieve Rs 30 trillion in exports over the next decade.
