Govt to Provide Monthly Stipend to 255 Medalist Players
KATHMANDU: The government has decided to provide monthly stipends to a total of 255 players who secured medals in international sports competitions including the Olympics, the Asian Games and south Asian games.
Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun announced that the government will provide the stipends to the players while presenting the economic survey in the House of Representatives meeting on Sunday.
The government has also prepared a detailed project report for the establishment of a high-altitude training centre at Timal of Manang district for capacity building of players. The Ministry of Youth and Sports has proposed a budget of Rs 70 million for establishing the high-altitude training center.
The ministry also plans to establish sports science labs, procuring top-notch fitness equipment for athletes, promoting indigenous and traditional sports, and launch programs to identify talented athletes.
Meanwhile, the economic survey further stated that stadiums will be built in Dhangadhi, Surkhet, Nepalgunj and Itahari as per government’s plan of 'one-province one stadium scheme'.
The government has directed the Sports Ministry to prepare a budget of proposal within the ceiling of Rs 3.19 billion.
