April 28: Nepali Congress Spokesperson and former Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that hydropower is the major area of investment in Nepal.
"India has signed a long-term agreement to import 10,000 MW of electricity while Bangladesh is also willing to import energy. There is no problem for market," he said during a session of the Nepal Investment Summit on Sunday.
Addressing the session, Mahat said tourism, agriculture and information technology are other good areas for investment.
Describing Nepal as a hub for agricultural production, he said that it is an excellent destination for those who want to invest in agriculture
Furthermore, Information technology sector exported services worth Rs 67 billion last year. With stability in the government policy, there is no market problem as Nepal lies between big economies like India and China.
The former Finance Minister said that there is a need for large commercial investment rather than small personal investment in Nepal. -- RSS
