March 18: The 25th Flora Expo concluded on Sunday at Bhrikutimandap with a turnover of more than Rs 10 million. Floriculture Association Nepal, the organizer of the event, informed that the transactions of the aforementioned amount took place from the sale of different types of flowers and tickets sale during the four-day fair. According to the organizers, 49,000 people visited the flower expo.
The fair was inaugurated last Thursday with the slogan 'Flower business for clean environment and economic development'.
Meen Bahadur Tamang, president of the association, said that the exhibition was organized to promote floral products at the national level, to expand the market, to distribute products and to establish direct relationships between flower traders and consumers.
He said that the business from the fair was as expected. Sixty exhibition stalls, three landscaping stalls, eight official stalls, one competition exhibition stall and food stall were kept in the fair.
Tamang says that the business of floral products, which are mostly used in various festivals, was severely affected in the last few years due to the impacts of coronavirus pandemic, but it has been recovering since the fiscal year 2078/79. The annual turnover of flower business is more than Rs 3 billion in Nepal.
With the increase in the demand for flowers, floriculture has been expanded in 43 districts of Nepal including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kaski, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Kavrepalanchok, Gulmi, Palpa, Dhading, and Morang among others.
Currently, 450 species of flowers are being produced commercially in Nepal. The flower business, which started in 2007 BS, is flourishing with the rapid urbanization in the country.
