March 18: The Karnali bridge, which was closed since a fire incident last week, has been opened for traffic on Monday. The bridge was opened for traffic after an assessment of the damage caused by the fire incident that originated from a truck loaded with gas lighters.
The bridge has been opened for traffic after an on-site assessment and in consultation with experts who said that travelling across the bridge was not a problem, said Engineer Niraj Shakya of the Road Division Office, Nepalgunj.
The wire ropes holding the signature bridge had caught fire in the incident that took place last Monday. The bridge was subsequently closed for traffic, before an expert team from the division came to inspect the extent of damage. -- RSS
