March 12: Transportation along the Karnali Bridge has been halted after 14 support wires sustained damages after they caught fire from a truck on Monday.
A special technical team suggested the authorities not to operate vehicles on bridge until a detailed inspection was done, according to Road Division Office, Nepalgunj.
Engineer at the Division Office, Niraj Shakya, said vehicular movement along the bridge has being stopped for the time being. "We reached the incident site on Monday night. Another technical team is arriving for further inspection," he added.
Police Inspector at Area Police Office, Chisapani, Hariram Dangi, said all the vehicle drivers were requested to use alternative routes with the closure of the regular route.
The vehicles operated from Sudurpaschim Province to federal capital Kathmandu and other provinces were asked to travel to Nepalgunj by Bardiya using the Sattipur Bridge.
A truck (Na 5 Kha 5297) heading towards the west suddenly caught fire while running on the Karnali Bridge on Monday afternoon. The fire from the truck later caught the construction wires of the bridge, spreading panic among the people. -- RSS
