KMC to Manage only Segregated Waste

February 2: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has decided to manage only segregated waste for the effective waste management in the metropolis.

The KMC says it will start the classification process from Ward No 5, 12 and 27 immediately. After some time, it will manage only the classified waste from all 32 wards. According to Rabin Man Shrestha, the head of KMC's Environment Management Department, even though the KMC had announced to manage waste only after classification a year and a half ago, the process was not implemented effectively.

The KMC is also working towards identifying the land for managing the collected classified waste at Bancharedanda, said Shrestha. Along with the classification and collection of waste, the KMC will make arrangement for sale of recyclable waste materials that are found during the classification of the waste.

The KMC also plans to make the residents of KMC aware about the benefits and need of classifying and separating garbage at source, he said.
