December 21: The government has fixed the minimum support price of sugarcane. A meeting of the Council of Ministers held at Singha Durbar on Wednesday fixed the minimum purchase price of sugarcane at Rs 565 per quintal. The meeting also decided to give subsidy of Rs 70 per quintal to the farmers on behalf of the government.
Government Spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communication Rekha Sharma informed that the government has fixed the price of sugarcane at Rs 635 per quintal for the farmers including government subsidies. The farmers were demanding that the purchase price of sugarcane should be increased to Rs 750 per quintal.
Spokesperson Sharma also shared that the government has reviewed its one-year tenure and the chief secretary has presented an action plan along with the problems and recommendations to speed up the work of the government.
