December 1: Standard Chartered Bank on Friday announced a donation of USD 100,000 (NPR 13.3 million) to the British Red Cross, the bank’s emergency response partner, to support the victims of the recent earthquake in western Nepal.
The funding will help to support the Nepal Red Cross Society in providing first aid and medical assistance, as well as essentials like food, water, and relief items including emergency shelter kits to families who have lost their homes in the earthquake and are exposed to the elements with the winter approaching, the bank said in a statement released on Friday.
“We are deeply saddened by the damage caused by the earthquake and stand in solidarity with the victims. As the only international bank in Nepal, we are in a strong position to be a force for positive change in times of need,” said Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Limited (SCBNL), adding, “We hope our donation will help the relief efforts and support those who have been severely impacted by this unfortunate disaster. <p><span style="font-size:18px"><span style="font-family:Calibri,"sans-serif"">The funding will help to support the Nepal Red Cross Society in providing first aid and medical assistance, as well as essentials like food, water, and relief items including emergency shelter kits to families who have lost their homes in the earthquake and are exposed to the elements with the winter approaching, the bank said in a statement released on Friday. </span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:18px"><span style="font-family:Calibri,"sans-serif"">“We are deeply saddened by the damage caused by the earthquake and stand in solidarity with the victims. As the only international bank in Nepal, we are in a strong position to be a force for positive change in times of need,” said Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Limited (SCBNL), adding, “We hope our donation will help the relief efforts and support those who have been severely impacted by this unfortunate disaster. We are committed to supporting our communities – it is at the heart of our brand promise to be Here for Good.”</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:18px"><span style="font-family:Calibri,"sans-serif"">The statement further said that Standard Chartered has been directly involved in the emergency response in the aftermath of this earthquake, which is the largest to impact Nepal since 2015, to support the victims and their families by providing food, emergency tents and sleeping bags.
