November 17: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has said that the government issued social media-related guidelines for the management of social media. Minister Sharma added that the government has already started preparation for drafting laws in this regard.
She said this while inaugurating the historical and cultural Dalle Sarai Mela 2080 in Pyuthan Municipality-7.
The remark comes in the wake of the government’s decision to ban popular social networking site TikTok, which drew widespread criticism.
Stakeholders claim that the country’s economy will benefit if the government regulates social media instead of issuing a blanket ban.
The Federation of Computer Association of Nepal on Wednesday urged the government to rethink its decision to ban TikTok bearing in the mind that the development of information technology have both opportunities and challenges.
The federation drew the attention of the government that TikTok has become a medium for small and middle-scale entrepreneurs to expand their market.
