Beware of Internet Scammers Seeking Help for Earthquake Victims: Nepal Police

November 5: The Nepal Police has requested one and all to be alert as scammers can use the internet or other means to defraud people in the name of earthquake victims by seeking financial assistance.

Nepal Police has issued a notification asking the general public to be careful from internet scammers while helping the earthquake victims.

The police have urged in the statement to help the earthquake victims only after ascertaining whether the persons or organizations asking for help are genuine.

"When providing financial or other support to earthquake victims through the Internet or other means, please help only by making sure that the people or organizations asking for help are authorized or not," the police said.

An earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitude in the Richter scale occurred at 11:47 on Friday night with its epicenter in Ramidanda of Jajarkot, causing loss of lives and properties in Jajarkot and Rukum West/East and surrounding areas.
