India Exports Over 1 Million Tons of non-Basmati Rice to 7 Countries

October 20: The Indian government has permitted exports of over 1 million tons of non-basmati white rice to Nepal, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivore, Guinea, Malaysia, the Philippines and Seychelles, officials said on Thursday.
According to a notification issued on Wednesday by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), falling under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the export is permitted through National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL).
"Export of non-basmati white rice ... to Nepal, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivore, Guinea, Malaysia, Philippines, and Seychelles is notified," said the notification issued by DGFT.

It notified 95,000 tonnes for Nepal, 190,000 tons for Cameroon, 142,000 tons each for Cote d'Ivore and Guinea, 170,000 tons for Malaysia, 295,000 tons for the Philippines, and 800 tons for Seychelles.
The Indian government in July banned exports of non-basmati white rice to boost domestic supply. However, exports are allowed on the basis of permission granted by the government to certain countries to meet their food security needs. -- Xinhua/RSS
