September 22: In the first two months of the current fiscal year, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has exported power worth over Rs 5.43 billion to India.

This export consisted of approximately Rs 1.95 billion worth of electricity supplied in the first month, Shrawan  (July 17 - August 17), and a subsequent export totaling Rs 3.48 billion in the following month, Bhadra (August 18 - September 17).

The average selling price per unit for these two months was Rs 8.13 paisa in Shrawan  and Rs 12.27 paisa in Bhadra, resulting in an overall two-month average rate of Rs 10.37 paisa per unit.

This power export to India is facilitated through the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) of the Indian Energy Exchange Limited (IEX), with approximately 110 megawatts of electricity being exported to the Indian company NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited as part of a mid-term electricity agreement.

Furthermore, the Central Electricity Authority under the Ministry of Power in India has granted approval for the import of 632 megawatts of electricity from Nepal.

NEA Managing Director, Kulman Ghising, highlighted that these power trade relations have made a significant contribution to Nepal's foreign exchange reserves, helping to reduce the substantial trade deficit the country has with India.(RSS)
