September 13: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has completed its investigation into the case of 61 kilograms of gold smuggled from Hong Kong to Nepal and is due to submit its report to the District Government Attorney Office.    
Chief of CIB and Additional Inspector General of Police Kiran Bajracharya told RSS that preparations are underway to submit the report on Wednesday since the report writing job is now completed.    
The CIB is preparing to give its recommendations to file charge sheet against the alleged on charges of organized crime, gold smuggling among others. The investigation period for the organized crime is 60 days.    
The case should be taken to the court as the limitation of 60 days is getting over on September 16.    
The District Government Attorney’s Office will then get three days of time to review the report before filing case at the district court.    
So far, 30 people have been arrested in connection with the case while one person is n surveillance out of the police custody citing health issues.    
The arrestees include customs officials, customs agents, gold traders and Indian and Chinese nationals.    
The Department of Revenue Investigation on July 19 had confiscated the smuggled gold weighing 60 kilos and 716 grams from the Sinamangal area in the capital city after it had passed customs clearance from the Tribhuvan International Airport.

The incident had caused widespread protest. The main opposition party, the CPN-UML had blocked the parliament proceedings demanding the formation of a high-level probe committee to investigate the case. The UML lifted the house obstruction after reaching an understanding with the government to form the probe committee after the police completes its investigation. -- RSS
