September 11: The Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) has suggested the government to formulate the 16th five-year plan by giving priority to domestic production, import substitution and job creation.
The CNI submitted this suggestion to the National Planning Commission along with a copy of a study conducted by the confederation on the issues that should be prioritized while formulating the 16th plan.
Rajesh Kumar Agarwal, president of the CNI handed over the suggestions to Vice-Chairman of the NPC, Dr Meen Bahadur Shrestha on Sunday.
On that occasion, CNI President Agarwal stressed that the 16th five-year plan should focus on industrial development. He also urged the NPC to adopt an integrated industrial development strategy for industrial development.
Agrawal was of the view that there should be no land ceiling for industries, while the government should ensure policy stability and predictability.
He also requested the government to give priority to the 'Make in Nepal Swadeshi Campaign’ to promote domestic production.
Similarly, the confederation also suggested the government to curb illegal transactions in border areas.
According to the CNI, double taxation should be removed in order to promote Nepal’s exports to various countries.
The CNI also stressed on government’s role in promoting employment-oriented skill development programmes.
