September 2: Dengue infection is on the rise in Nepal. According to the data unveiled by the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, a total of 21,206 people have so far tested positive for dengue infection this year.
It may be noted that the division had projected the dengue cases to rise from mid-August to mid-October. So far 13 infected people have lost their lives to the dengue contagion.
Director of the division Dr Rudra Prasad Marasini said dengue infection is increasing daily due to continuous rainfall.
Dengue was first detected in Nepal in 2004. In 2022, a total of 54,784 people were infected with dengue and 88 died due to the contagion.
Sunsari district has topped the list of dengue cases in the country. According to the division, Sunsari district has reported 11,659 cases of dengue infection.
Morang is second in the list with 2,242 cases followed by Dhading with 2,101 cases. -- RSS
