Tatopani Checkpoint sees Human Mobility after Eight Years

September 1: Human mobility across the Tatopani border checkpoint in Sindhupalchowk district bordering China has resumed from today (Friday) after a hiatus of eight years.
The locals of Sindhupalchowk, who were  issued permits by the Tatopani-based Immigration Office, set out towards China crossing the Friendship Bridge at Liping after security clearance from Chinese security personnel.
The locals' team led by parliamentarian Madhav Sapkota received a warm reception from Chinese people in their land.
Sapkota, an elected MP from Constituency-1 in Sindhupalchowk, who reached the border point with people's representatives from Tatopani area, officials from the Immigration Office this morning, said that the checkpoint is fully open from today.
The checkpoint which remained closed since the mega earthquakes of 2015, however, saw movement of cargo vehicles since May 1 earlier this year.
The transit point has been opened for people, said CDO of Sindhupalchowk, Ramesh Neupane, after raising the issue repeatedly in the parliament and subsequent discussions between the Nepali side and the China side. -- RSS
