Ruling Alliance Rejects Formation of High-Level Probe Commission on Recent Gold Scam   

August 15: A meeting of the top leaders of the ruling coalition has concluded that a high-level probe commission is not necessary to investigate into the recent gold scam.    
During the meeting held at prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Monday, discussions were held on contemporary political issues.    
On the occasion, the leaders agreed that it was not necessary to form a high-level probe commission on the recent gold scam as demanded by the main opposition CPN (UML) in order to end the parliament obstruction.    
Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress, Ramesh Lekhak, said the Central Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police has been carrying out investigation into the scam, adding the formation of a high-level commission might obstruct the work of the CIB and distract the issue.    
Briefing about the meeting, he said, "The meeting concluded that the demand for formation of a high-level probe commission is to obstruct the ongoing investigation and divert the issue."    
Lekhak further said that investigation regarding the alleged involvement of former Speaker and CPN (Maoist Centre) Spokesperson, Krishna Bahadur Mahara was underway.    
Likewise, discussions were also held on Gaur massacre, he shared, adding that the meeting also discussed that the government should finalize the Gaur massacre in accordance with the law.    
Similarly, the meeting also discussed about Lalita Niwas land scam.    
Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre) and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairperson of Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Mahantha Thakur and other leaders were present during the meeting. -- RSS
