July 17: The government has revised the public transportation fares after the prices of petroleum produced declined. The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has reduced the fares by around three percent with a fall in the prices of petroleum products.
The fares were adjusted as per the 'automatic pricing system' that has been in force since March 31, 2022. The DoTM said that the revised price has come into effect from Monday.
The DoTM took this decision after the price of diesel fell by Rs 4 per liter and petrol by Rs 6 per liter on Monday.
According to DoTM, the fare of passenger vehicles has been reduced by 2.13 percent and cargo containers by 2.78 in the hills and 3.09 in the Terai.
DoTM’s Director General Narayan Prasad Bhattarai told the state-owned RSS that the Transport Management Office and the Traffic Police Division will monitor the implementation of the revised fares list.
Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Prakash Jwala, said new provision was made in regard with the working procedures related to the scientific fare adjustment.
As per the automatic pricing mechanism, the adjustment in fare is required when there is a fall or rise in the price of petroleum products exceeding five percent.
