July 14: The upper house of the parliament, The National Assembly, has passed the Bill to Raise National Debt.
During Friday’s meeting of the NA, Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat presented a proposal to return the bill, which had received suggestions from the House of Representatives (HoR), to the lower house of the Federal Parliament without any amendments.
The majority of lawmakers supported this proposal, leading to its passage.
During the discussion of the bill's clauses, some legislators raised concerns about the utility of increasing national debt when the percentage of public debt is already rising in comparison to the gross domestic product.
Despite these concerns, the bill proceeded and was ultimately approved.
The National Assembly's next session is scheduled for July 17 at 1:00 pm.
