Children of Dadeldhura Drop Out of School for Employment

July 13: The number of children who drop out of school for employment is high in Dadeldhura. They are forced to look for employment instead of studying because of weak financial situation. Some children are forced to drop out of school because they get married off at a young age.

It has been found that the number of dropouts in Bhageswar Rural Municipality is high. According to the rural municipality, the number of students dropping out in the middle of the academic session are forced to go for employment due to economic hardship and child marriage. It has been found that more female students drop out from schools because their families marry them at a young age.

This problem is not only prevalent in Bhageshwar. According to the Education Development and Coordination Unit, it is also seen in other municipalities of the district. There are more children who drop out of school from grade 1 to 10.

"Parents whose economic conditions are weak are not able to give their children higher education," said Datti Singh Bhandari, the ward chairman of Ajaymeru Rural Municipality-1.

He says that it is necessary to create an environment where children can get higher education at the local level. According to Khagendra Bharti, chief administrative officer of Bhageswar Rural Municipality, lots of children in Bhageswar have dropped out of school so far. There are 8 secondary and 24 basic schools in the village which has 32 schools in total.

In the current academic session, 3,551 children are enrolled in the school. About 5.5 percent of children are out of reach of schools.

The number of people who drop out of school and go to India for employment is high because of the close proximity with India.

Ramesh Luhar, a local, said that they cannot afford higher education due to poverty and their parents take them to India for employment.

“It is difficult to find jobs. Therefore our parents tell us to quit education because it is better to find jobs early than to seek employment after acquiring education,” he said.
