July 9: The National Planning Commission (NPC) has expedited the process of formulating the overall human resource development plan. The committee formed under the coordination of NPC member Dr Ramesh Poudel has prepared a report on the human resource development plan and started discussions on the topic.
Taking into consideration the importance of human resource development for the development of the country, the commission has taken forward the work of formulating a comprehensive human resource development plan. For this, the steering committee was formed under the coordination of Paudel. The committee has representatives from the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Federal Affairs, universities, the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and private sector schools. On behalf of the private sector, FNCCI president Chandra Prasad Dhakal is a member of the committee.
Consultants were asked to prepare the report on the overall human resource development plan under certain conditions.
The consultants prepared the report and made a presentation of the final draft on July 5. The draft report includes the details of Nepal's existing human resources situation, employment and unemployment situation and the projection of possible employment to be created by the year 2086.
The report states that there are currently around 900,000 unemployed people in the country. The report proposes reducing the number of unemployed people to 300,000 by the year 2086, promoting employment in the public and private sector, expanding skill-based training, etc.
