Government Bans Plastic Bags Below 40 Microns

July 7: The government has banned the use of plastic bags and products that are below 40 microns in thickness. This decision was announced by the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration through a statement released on Thursday.

Dr. Krishna Hari Pushkar, the ministry secretary, emphasized the importance of reducing plastic bags and encouraged the use of polythene bags that are above 40 microns in thickness.

Dr. Pushkar called upon all levels of government, including the federal, provincial, and local authorities, to extend their support

The government's decision comes in response to the findings of the Waste Management Baseline Survey conducted in 2022, which revealed alarming statistics regarding plastic waste generation.

According to the survey, plastic products accounted for 12 percent of household waste, 21 percent of institutional waste, and 22 percent of waste from various establishments.
