July 4: Community school employees in the federal capital, Maitighar, are continuing with their hunger strike, demanding improved services, facilities, and the retention of their quota.
The hunger strike has now entered its 22nd day and involves employees from approximately 60 community schools, said Shanti Nath Yogi, General Secretary of the School Employees Council.
The hunger-striking employees are currently facing difficulties regarding food and accommodation, according to Yogi.
Although the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology initiated discussions with the protesting employees on June 18 through the formation of a committee for talks, no agreement has been reached thus far.
Yogi announced that the Council is preparing additional protest programs due to the lack of agreement regarding their demands.
The Ministry's talks team, led by Chudamani Poudel, the Director General of the Centre for Education and Human Resource Development, also includes Under-Secretaries from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration.
Poudel stated that the Ministry of Finance has not responded to the issue of additional budget allocation to meet the employees' demands.
Following the government's invitation for talks, the Council withdrew its plan to close schools. However, the hunger strike continues to press the government to fulfill their demands. (RSS)
