July 2 : Due to a prolonged period of drought, farmers are unable to plant Bhadaiya rice in Bara. Failure to cultivate the Bhadaiya rice will result in decline in its production.
Raj Narayan Prasad, the Crop Conservation Officer at the Agriculture Knowledge Centre in Bara, reported that farmers had planned to cultivate various varieties of Bhadaiya rice across 11,905 hectares of land in the fiscal year 2080/81.
However, only 10 percent of the intended plantation has been completed so far due to the prolonged drought.
Prasad noted that while the area allocated for planting Bhadaiya rice seedlings has decreased, there will be an increase in the area designated for planting Agahani rice this year.
Similarly, Jitendra Yadav, the Chief of the Agriculture Knowledge Centre, said that farmers successfully cultivated different varieties of Bhadaiya rice across 11,905 hectares of land last year, yielding 4.3 percent per hectare.
Gopal Das Bairagi, a farmer from Kalaiya Sub-Metropolis-14, shared the challenges faced by farmers, as they were unable to plant rice seedlings due to scant rainfall. (RSS)
