June 30: Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the Under-Secretary General for Peace Operations at the United Nations, paid a visit to the sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha in Lumbini on Thursday.
Upon his arrival, Under Secretary General Lacroix was warmly welcomed by Abadhes Kumar Tripathi, the Vice Chairperson of the Lumbini Development Trust, along with Siddhi Charan Bhattarai, the treasurer, and Sanu Raja Shakya, the member secretary.
Vice Chairman Tripathi provided a comprehensive briefing on the significance of Lumbini.
Expressing his joy and gratitude for the opportunity to visit the birthplace of Lord Buddha, Under Secretary General Lacroix emphasized the United Nations' commitment to supporting the development of Lumbini both presently and in the future.
During his visit, Lacroix explored several noteworthy sites, including the Mayadevi Temple, the Peace Lamp, and monasteries representing Thailand, Cambodia, France, and Vietnam.The UN Under Secretary General Lacroix is on a four-day visit to Nepal. (RSS)
