June 26: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has unveiled a budget of over Rs 25.4 billion for the upcoming fiscal year, 2023/24. This budget marks an increase of approximately Rs 140 million compared to the previous year.
KMC's Deputy Mayor, Sunita Dangol, who also serves as the coordinator of the budget and program committee, presented the budget at the City Hall in Kathmandu. Out of the total budget, over Rs 8.6 billion has been allocated for current expenditure, while more than Rs 16.9 billion has been earmarked for capital expenditure.
Notably, the KMC has prioritized health, education, and infrastructure development in its budget. For infrastructure development, an allocation of over Rs 7.3 billion has been made, while Rs 1.3 billion has been set aside for education and Rs 926 million for health.
Furthermore, the KMC has allocated Rs 3.8 billion for its pride projects, focusing on 10 thematic areas, and Rs 2 billion for projects related to 25 thematic areas as part of the City's golden plan. Additionally, Rs 70 million has been allocated specifically for waste management initiatives.
