June 23: The Supreme Court on Thursday lifted the interim order that had prevented the implementation of the Citizenship Act amendment bill.
A division bench consisting of Justices Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Kumar Regmi made the decision to discontinue the previous interim order issued by the Supreme Court, which had halted the authentication of the bill.
On June 4, Justice Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma issued a show cause notice and interlocutory order regarding the implementation of the amendment to the act.
The bill was certified by President Ram Chandra Paudel on May 31, following a recommendation from the Council of Ministers. However, senior advocates Surendra Bhandari and Bal Krishna Neupane filed a writ petition against the certification.
