Lawmakers Urge Govt to Speed up Relief Work in Flood-Ravaged Taplejung, Panchthar   

June 21: Lawmakers speaking in the zero hour session of the House of Representatives on Wednesday drew the attention of the government to speed up rescue and relief works in the districts of eastern Nepal that have been hit by flooding and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall some days back.    
They also demanded restoring the road connectivity in those districts as soon as possible.    
Lawmaker Urmila Thebe drew the government's attention towards the big loss of lives and properties in Taplejung, Panchthar, Sankhuwasabha, Tehrathum, among other districts in the eastern parts of the country due to the rain-induced disaster.    
She called on the government to speed up the search and rescue of those people who have gone missing in the floods and landslides.    
Ishwaridevi Neupane drew the attention of the parliament and the government on the plights of people who are still devoid of the citizenship certificate and urged for addressing their problems promptly.    
Urmila Majhi voiced the problem faced by the people in Lamjung due to the frequent power outages despite the district having over a dozen hydropower plants.    
Eknath Dhakal urged the government to take measures for the integrated development of tourism in Gorkha district while Kaluram Rai demanded the government to ensure social justice to the people with disabilities.    
Ganesh Parajuli urged the government to adopt preparedness to deal with flooding and landslides in vulnerable places of Tarai and hill districts.

Gomalav Sapkota said the government should take steps to end sexual harassment and violence against women in the country.    
Chandra Bahadur Bishwokarma called for reducing incidents of racial discrimination and untouchability against backward and Dalit communities in districts including Siraha and Baitadi.    
Others including Kushum Devi Thapa, Tshering Lama Tamang, Jwala Kumari Sah, Tshering Damdul Lama (Bhote), Kiran Kumar Shah, Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, Juli Kumari Mahato, Ganga Karki and Chanda Karki drew the attention of the government to the contemporary issues of the country. -- RSS
