Lawmakers Demand Budget Amendment

June 16: In a parliamentary meeting, lawmaker Prem Suwal has emphasized the necessity of amending the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2023/24, taking into account the suggestions provided by fellow lawmakers.

During a joint deliberation, he called upon the Prime Minister and Finance Minister to be prepared for budget amendments. Specifically, Suwal proposed a reduction in expenditures allocated to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, and the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport in Friday's House of Representatives meeting.

Highlighting the importance of addressing the challenges faced by cooperative victims, Suwal emphasized the government's involvement in dealing with underperforming cooperatives.

He suggested that the savings of cooperative victims should be recovered by seizing the assets of government officials who granted licenses to these problematic cooperatives.

Additionally, Suwal stressed the need to restrict the operational jurisdiction of cooperatives to specific local level wards.

Similarly, lawmaker Basanta Nembang expressed concerns that the current budget fails to meet its targets in terms of physical progress and goals. He called for necessary amendments to both the budget and appropriation bills to ensure alignment with the intended objectives.
