June 14: A total of 6,268 set of weapons that were seized, received, recovered or found stray over various period of time and places were destroyed in accordance with the law.
Among the destroyed weapons were 6,189 set of countryside gun and 64 set of pistols. Names of 13 weapons would not be ascertained, according to the Nepal Police.
The weapons were destroyed by Nepal Police Special Taskforce in Kapan in the witness of Additional Inspector General (AIG) of the Nepal Police, representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, District Administration Office, Kathmandu among other concerned authorities, said Spokesperson of the Nepal Police Kuber Kadayat.
The weapons were destroyed as per the directives to manage arms and ammunition as well as explosive materials. A technical team led by AIG Meera Chaudhary after conducting studies of the seized weapons had decided to recommend destroying such weapons in line with the prevailing law. (RSS)
