June 5: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB)’s Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari has said that Nepali students studying in India will no longer face problems once the Nepal-India cross border transaction comes into operation. Governor Adhikari said that the new arrangement will also facilitate Nepali pilgrims who face difficulties in India.

Nepal and India had recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cross-border digital payment during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s recent state visit to India. The MoU is expected to facilitate people of both countries for digital transactions.

"There is the issue of payment for the Indian tourists visiting Nepal. Also, those Nepalis going to India for study and for pilgrims used to face difficulties," said Governor Adhikari, adding that the cross-country digital transaction would aid in making payment easier.    

He made such remarks while receiving a report on digital transaction between Nepal and India prepared by a team of the Economic Media Operators Association of Nepal (EMAN).

The team had prepared the report after conducting studies in various cities in India including the Indian capital New Delhi for two weeks.    
The association handed over the report to the NRB governor on Sunday amid a programme organized at NRB, according to EMAN President Royal Acharya.    
Receiving the report, Governor Adhikari thanked EMAN for conducting the study on cross-country digital transaction, which he believed, would be useful for the NRB.
