May 24: With the introduction of a new law to crack down on the loan sharking, Mahottari District Administration Office (DAO) has witnessed a surge of complaints of late.

According to Upendra Neuapne, Assistant Chief District Officer of Mahottari, a total of 1,734 complaints have been officially registered against loan sharks in the district.

The number of complainants has increased after the government provided extra time for the victims to register complaints against loan sharking.

The government had introduced an ordinance and announced to take stringent action against those involved in loan sharking. The loan shark victims had started registering their complaints at the Mahottari DAO since May 1.
