Simrik Air Helicopter Crashes in Sankhuwasabha District

May 5: A helicopter belonging to Simrik Air crashed in Sankhuwasabha district on Friday morning. Three people onboard helicopter are said to have sustained severe injuries, according to the District Administration Office, Sankhuwasabha.

According to assistant chief district officer in Sankhuwasabha, Mohanmani Ghimire, the helicopter met with the accident while landing at Siprung of Bhotkhola rural municipality in the district.    
Rescue efforts are underway and a Nepalese Army helicopter has been flown to the incident site, said administrative officer, Bhogendra Shrestha.    
Eleven Army personnel have been deployed along with its helicopter for rescue efforts, said Brigadier General Krishna Prasad Bhandari, the NA spokesperson.

Out of the total five people onboard the ill-fated helicopter, three are said to be in serious condition, and two in normal situation, he said.

The accident took place at Hammaredanda of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-4 while landing. The helicopter was carrying materials for the Upper Arun hydropower project.
