April 30: Nepal's beaten rice industry has achieved growth in exports in the nine months of the current fiscal year. According to the Department of Customs, the country has exported 3,78,222 kilograms of chiura (beaten rice) worth NPR 13.62 crores during this period, with an average price of NPR 360 per kg.
This represents an increase of 17% in export price and 4% in quantity compared to the same period last fiscal year when Nepal had exported 3,60,440 kilograms of chiura worth NPR 11.63 crores.
Nepal's beaten rice is exported to several countries, including Australia, Japan, Belgium, Canada, Hong Kong, South Korea, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and America.
The highest amount of chiura was exported to the United States during the review period, with a total export of 1,55,970 kilograms worth NPR 7.32 crores at an average price of NPR 470 per kg.
Similarly, 1,00,786 kilograms of chiura worth NPR 3.43 crores were exported to Australia, and 28,586 kilograms of chiura worth NPR 1.3 crore were exported to Italy at an average price of NPR 340 and NPR 360 per kg, respectively.
The growth in Nepal's beaten rice exports is a positive development for the country's agriculture sector, as it provides opportunities for local farmers and traders to expand their market reach and increase revenue.
It also highlights the growing demand for Nepalese food products in the international market.
