Bajura District Struck by Two Earthquakes in Rapid Succession

April 28: Two earthquakes hit Bajura District in Nepal within a span of just one and a half hours in the late hours of Thursday night.

The first quake, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale, struck the district at 11:58 pm on Thursday, followed by a second, more powerful tremor of 5.9 magnitude at 1:30 am on Friday.

The epicenter of both earthquakes was located in Dahakot, Bajura, according to Rajesh Sharma, a technical assistant at the Surkhet Earthquake Measurement Center. The quakes caused panic among local residents, who rushed out of their homes to escape the shaking.

The impact of the earthquakes was also felt in neighboring districts of Bajura, although there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The local authorities are currently assessing the situation and gathering information about the possible damage caused by the quakes.

"We are working to collect details about the possible damage by the earthquakes," said a spokesperson for the District Police Office in Bajura.
