April 27: South Korean electronics giant Samsung has set up a television factory in Nawalparasi in collaboration with Him Electronics.
The company claimed that this is the first time a multinational company has set up an electronics manufacturing facility in Nepal and it will have a major impact on the local economy.
The television factory was jointly inaugurated by Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Ramesh Rijal and Samsung’s South-West Asia President and Chief Executive Officer JB Park.
The opening ceremony was attended by Shekhar Golcha, president of Golcha Group, Park Chong Suk, South Korean ambassador to Nepal, Sung Joon Park, head of Samsung Electronics Nepal.
At the opening ceremony, President and CEO of Samsung South-West Asia Park said that the new television industry will strengthen the relationship with Nepal. He said that the industry will provide employment opportunities to the locals.
"This new television factory with our partners Him Electronics will further deepen our bond with Nepal and underline the work we are doing to strengthen the local industry and provide employment opportunities to people here. It will also facilitate the development of skilled manpower. We thank the Nepal Government and local authorities for their strong vision and continued support," Psrk said in a statement issued by the company.
Samsung has been present in Nepal for over two decades and this new television plant is a reflection of the company's special interest in the country, added the statement.
“The manufacturing facility will also help create a better electronics manufacturing ecosystem in Nepal.”
