Dr Swarnim Wagle Leads Vote Count with over 9000 Votes while others Struggle to get 100 Votes

April 24: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Dr Swornim Wagle is leading the vote count by a wide margin in Tanahun constituency 1 in the by-election held on Sunday (April 23).

Counting of votes is currently underway in Tanahun-1 under the by-election held to elect new members of the House of Representatives to fill the vacant posts.

According to the latest results of the vote count released by the Election Commission, Dr Wagle is leading with 9,201 votes.

His nearest rival – Nepali Congress candidate Govinda Bhattarai – is a distant second with 4,214 votes while CPN UML's Sarbendra Khanal has garnered 2,430 votes.

The other six candidates have not even received 100 votes.

According to the latest update of the by-election, Prem Bahadur Thapa of Mongol National Organization has got 99 votes.

Similarly, Shobha Gurung of Rashtriya Prajatantra Party received 39 votes, Bhim Bahadur Sunar of Nagarik Unmukti Party bagged 31 votes, followed by Purna Bahadur Rana of Rashtriya Janamukti Party with 15 votes, Ram Prasad Prajapati of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party with 7 votes and Ganesh Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Socialist) with only 2 votes.

A total of 63,757 votes were cast in 42 wards of the Tanahu constituency-1. Vote counting is being held in two places. The Election Commission is scheduled to announce the results by April 25.
