April 21: A world record for the fastest 100 wicket in one-day internationals (ODIs) by Sandeep Lamichhane and a maiden century from Kushal Malla helped Nepal register a stunning victory over Oman in the ACC Premier Cup on Friday.
Nepal’s leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who was in the spotlight earlier for raping a minor girl, shattered the world record for the fastest 100 wickets in ODI at home turf of TU Cricket Ground.
He achieved this feat after taking the wicket of Adil Shafiq in the 12.3 over.
Lamichhane has achieved the feat of taking 100 wickets in just 42 matches. Earlier this record was held by Afghanistan's Rashid Khan who had taken 100 wickets in 44 matches.
The exemplary performance of Lamichhane and Malla helped Nepal defeat the visitors by 84 runs to the delight of the home crowd.
It was also the first time in 50 matches that Nepal scored more than 300 runs in the ODI format of cricket.
Meanwhile, quickfire Malla scored 108 runs off 64 balls including four boundaries and ten sixes. He reached the mark of 100 runs off 59 balls, a national record for Malla as no other Nepali player has achieved such a feat in just 59 balls.
Other Nepali players who have scored ODI centuries are Paras Khadka, Rohit Poudel, Dipendra Singh Airee, Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh.
During Friday’s match, Oman managed to score only 226 runs in 46.3 overs while chasing a target of 311 runs for victory.
Sandeep Lamichhane and Karan KC bagged three wickets each for Nepal while Dipendra Singh Airee took two and Lalit Rajbanshi bagged one.
Earlier, Nepal, which lost the toss and was invited to bat first, scored a record 310 runs losing eight wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
Oman’s Ayaan Khan took two wickets while Bilal Khan, Kaleemullah, Zeeshan Maqsood, Fayyaz Butt, Aquib Ilyas and Jatinder Singh took a wicket each.
