Nepali New Year being Observed Today

April 14: The Nepali New Year 2080 Bikram Sambat (BS) is being celebrated with fanfare by exchanging greetings across the country today.
The Bikram Sambat (era) runs synchronously with the Sun's motion and state, according to Chairman of the Rastriya Dharma Sabha, Dr Madhav Bhattarai. He further said that the Bikram Sambat incorporates both the features of Shak Sambat and practical aspects of the Gregorian Calendar. The BS was introduced 3,044 years after the beginning of the Kali Yuga (last of the four ages as per the Hindy mythology).
On the New Year day, people review their past and make resolution for further success.
The houses are kept neat and clean and greetings exchanged among family members, relatives, friends and colleagues. Similarly, special delicacies are prepared and relished. The Nepali people living in any part of the world celebrate Baisakh 1 as the New Year. -- RSS
