Farmers in Chitwan Resume Protest

February 26: The farmers of Chitwan have again started their protest, this time with another symbolic protest by flying black balloons. They had started protested by throwing vegetables on the road on February 3. As their demands were not addressed, they started the second phase of the protest on Friday. Lekhnath Bhusal, the coordinator of Farmer’s Struggle Committee Chitwan, said that black balloons were flown to convey the message that the farmers are continuously protesting.

The farmers gathered at the central bus terminal in Bharatpur with placards and reached Pulchok in Narayangadh via District Administration Office, Bypass Road, Agriculture Knowledge Centre, Chaubiskothi. They demonstrated on the highway. They said that despite many assurances that their demands will be met, the concerned authorities have not lived up to their commitment.

As a result, the protest continues in various forms.

During the demonstration, they insisted to stop the import of vegetables, determine the right price and proper management of domestic products, ensure timely availability of fertilizer and seeds, etc. The farmers demonstrated with placards that read 'There is no future in farming, and they are old to go to the Gulf countries, the leaders are always weak, the people are always poor, let's boycott foreign products, let's encourage domestic products, the agricultural revolution continues'.
