February 15: Construction of New Modi(Parbat)-Lekhnath(Kaski) transmission line has been completed.
Under the New Modi-Lekhnath transmission line project, 43 kilometers of 132 double circuit transmission line, 132 KV switching station at Deupur of Modi Rural Municiplaity-2, 132 KV Lahachhap substation at Kaski’s Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality-4 and 132 KV line bay at Lekhnath substation’s switchyard have been completed.
The new Modi-Lekhnath transmission line project has been constructed to improve the power supply of various districts including Parbat, Kaski and evacuate electricity generated from hydropower projects to be constructed on Modi, Seti, Madi and Sardi rivers to the national grid.
Kulman Ghising, Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) said that construction of the New Modi-Lekhnath was finished with the completion of the construction of Lahachowk-Lekhnath transmission line.
Construction of the transmission line was disrupted due to COVID-19 pandemic and locals’ demand to change the routes of the transmission lines at Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality and various places of Pokhara Metropolitan City.
“We have constructed the infrastructure that is capable to evacuate 200 megawatt of power generated from various projects to the national grid,” said Ghising.
Electricity generated from various projects will be connected to New Modi and Lahachowk substation and evacuated to the national grid.
As many as 140 towers have been constructed along the New Modi-Lekhnath Transmission Line Project. Lahachowk substation has power transformers of 132/33 KV, 30 MVA and 33/11 KV and 8 MVA. To supply the power to the locals, one line bay of 33 KV and four feeders of 11 KV have been constructed at Lahachowk substation.
It took 2.24 billion to finish the transmission line project. The project was funded by the Nepal government, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and subsidized loan of the India’s Import-Export (Exim) Bank of India.
