February 15: A high-level task formed by the government to address the problems faced by the transport sector is to start its work by classifying the demands of the sector for immediate action and for long-term solution.
A meeting of the task force held under the chairmanship of Director General of the Department of Transport Management Tulsinath Gautam took a decision to this effect on Tuesday.
Transport entrepreneurs and labour unions related to this sector also agreed to form a common opinion on the problems faced by the transport sector and submit it to the task force by Wednesday evening.
According to General Secretary of Nepal Transport Workers' Association Nurnath Pant, all stakeholders related to the transport sector had attended the meeting called by the government in the wake of recent events that resulted in a halt to the public transport services.
It maybe recalled that the transport workers had resorted to vandalism on Monday demanding the concerned authorities to revoke hefty fines imposed to traffic rules violation.
In course of the protest, the agitating transport workers had torched a police vehicle and a police beat in Balaju area of Kathmandu and also vandalized the Lotse Mall in New Bus Park area.
