Transport Workers’ Unions Withdraw Protest

February 14: The transport workers' organisations have called off their protest on Tuesday after reaching an understanding with the government to address their demands.

The agitating transport workers agreed to withdraw their protest after holding talks with the government officials at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.     
The agitating workers confirmed that all the protest programmes have been withdrawn following the understanding reached with the concerned authorities to address the justified demands of the workers' unions.    
The transport workers' organisation had declared to halt the public transportation service in the Kathmandu Valley on Tuesday.    
The transport workers had carried out a protest in Gongabu and New Bus Park area since Monday evening, putting forth a 10-point demand, including reduction in the traffic penalty. Incident of vandalism and arson were also reported in course of the agitation. -- RSS
