February 12: Election Commission has decided to hold the by-election in Chitwan constituency-2 on April 23, 2023.

A meeting of the Election Commission held on Sunday decided to hold the by-poll for the member of the  House of Representatives in accordance with the existing election act-2074 on April 23, 2023.

Earlier, Rastriya Swotantra Party’s President Rabi Lamichhane was elected to the House of Representatives from Chitwan constituency-2 in the general polls held on November 20, 2022.

 Lamichhane had lost the status of a lawmaker after the Supreme Court ruled that citizenship certificate he produced to contest the parliamentary polls was invalid. Following the court verdict, Lamichhane had lost  the portfolio of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister apart from the status of lawmaker.
